Made this drink for a Harry Potter themed party with my daughter’s friends. It is of course non-alcoholic and just loaded with a lot of fun.
The quantity mentioned here will give you enough for about 25 cups at a little more than 100 ml each.
You need:
- 200 Grams of Brown Sugar.
- 100 Grams of unsalted Butter.
- A tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar.
- A half teaspoon of salt.
- 2 Liters of Cranberry juice.
- 500 ml of Plain Carbonated Water or Soda.
In a heavy pan take the sugar and add about 3 tablespoons of water. Cook on low heat and keep stirring as it melts and starts to caramelize. This will take a little time so patience is important. When the sugar has completely liquefied and starts to bubble, switch off the heat and melt in the butter. Once the butter has fully melted add the apple cider vinegar and salt. Mix well and let it cool. Occasionally stir it so that it does not stick to the pan and crystallize.
When fully cooled, transfer to a large serving dish. Add the cranberry juice. Do it in installments of 200 ml till its fully dissolved into the butter and sugar. Slowly the fats will render out and will float to the top. This is expected.
Taste it and then add in the plain soda to get the desired consistency.
Extra points if you say, “Let us step into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.” as you take the first sip.
Enjoy.
