Some tips on how to make a non-messy sandwich.
You Need:
- A Bread Roll. Preferably flavored with garlic and herbs.
- Cucumber : Sliced lengthwise.
- Tomato: Sliced diagonally. This gives is more surface area and prevents slipping out.
- A cheese slice. Divided into two halves.
- Cooked Boneless Meat or chicken.
- Some butter.
- A small steel plate.
- A clean kitchen towel.
Divide the roll into two parts. Slice vertically in the center. Get a grill pan to high heat. Keep the roll, outer edges down. Place butter even if its cold right in the middle of the exposed roll. After a minute of two the outer face of the bread has gotten lightly toasted, flip it over. The butter gets in contact with the hot pan and starts sizzling. The bread on top immediately soaks it in and starts getting lightly fried. Place the steel plate on top of the roll. Protecting your fingers with the kitchen towel, press down with all your force. Be careful that you don’t end up slipping everything off the stove.
The compressed bread will become a lot easier to eat. You will not have to contort your mouth like a crocodile to eat your sub. When you are satisfied with the toasting, remove only the base. Flip over the top and switch off the stove. Put the pieces of the cheese slice on the inner side of the top part. Let it melt into the bread as it remains in the hot pan.
On the base, keep the cucumber, tomato and the meat. Any condiment of your choice. Close the sub and enjoy a very yummy and easy to eat meal.
